HomeQuality & Safety

Safe care, openly shared

We’re accredited against the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards, and we’re committed to transparency, continuous improvement and listening to our patients.

Accreditation

Accredited against the NSQHS Standards

The NSQHS Standards were developed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care to protect the public from harm and improve the quality of care. Day procedure services are assessed against them by an independent accrediting agency.

Clinical Governance

Systems that keep care safe, effective and continually improving.

Partnering with Consumers

Involving patients and carers in their care and in how we improve.

Preventing and Controlling Infections

Hand hygiene, cleaning, sterilisation and antimicrobial stewardship.

Medication Safety

Safe prescribing, supply and administration of medicines.

Comprehensive Care

Care planned and delivered around each patient’s needs.

Communicating for Safety

Clear communication at every handover and transition of care.

Blood Management

Minimising bleeding risk and managing it safely when it occurs.

Recognising and Responding to Acute Deterioration

Monitoring patients and acting quickly if their condition changes.

Keeping you safe

How we keep you safe

  • Credentialed doctors. Our Medical Advisory Committee approves each doctor’s scope of practice and reviews it at least every three years.
  • Careful patient selection. We only admit patients for whom day surgery under local anaesthetic is a safe choice.
  • Infection prevention. We audit hand hygiene and antibiotic use, and follow the national Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Care Standard.
  • Incident reporting and review. Staff are encouraged to report any incident or near miss, and every report is reviewed so we can learn from it.
  • Ongoing training. Our team completes annual training in areas including infection prevention, incident management and open disclosure.

Open disclosure means

  • An apology or expression of regret
  • A factual explanation of what happened
  • A chance to tell your story and ask questions
  • An agreed plan for your ongoing care
  • Feedback on what we’ve changed as a result

Open disclosure

If something doesn’t go to plan

Open disclosure is your right. If you’re harmed while in our care, we’ll talk with you and your family openly. We’ll say sorry, explain what happened, tell you what we’re doing about it, and share what we learn to prevent it happening again.

Our approach follows the Australian Open Disclosure Framework.
